Early Civilizations and Pastoral Peoples (4000-1000 BCE)

The earliest civilizations emerged in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus valley, with agricultural societies appearing and spreading widely. Pastoral peoples began to play an important role in world history, while elsewhere other societies became more highly militarized.
