gZi-brjid

(ca. 1400)

About the Author

According to adherents, Londen Nyingpo wrote down the gZi-brjid verbatim in the latter half of the fourteenth century, after hearing the scripture from a supernatural sage. From an historical point of view, Londen was a poet who wrote this and many other Bon texts. He was born in 1360 in the Khyungpo region of Kham, a Tibetan region that has been broken up into areas now incorporated into several provinces of western China. While Londen Nyingpo is understood as the historical author of the text, Bonpos (followers of the Bon tradition) understand his gZi-brjid as a revelation of a teaching originally taught by Tonpa Shenrab.
