- Advent: the period encompassing the four Sundays preceding the birth of Christ (that is, Christmas)
- Apostolic See: also Holy See, the central government of the Catholic Church, based in the Vatican
- For where two or three are gathered together in my name…: quotation from the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, chapter 18, verse 20
- homily: a sermon, usually one based on a reading from scripture
- indult: a permission or privilege granted by a church authority for an exception from a particular church law
- Lent: the forty days preceding the resurrection of Christ (that is, Easter), a time of penitence for Christians
- liturgy: in Catholicism, the mass, especially the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (or Holy Communion)
- Redeemer: Christ
