  • affidavit a written declaration made under oath before somebody authorized to administer oaths, usually setting out the statement of a witness for court proceedings
  • deposition testimony given under oath, especially a statement given by a witness that is read out in court in the witness's absence
  • impeachment the first part of a legislative process enacted to remove a government official from office; a vote for an indictment leading to a trial in which the government official is either convicted or acquitted
  • high crimes defined in the U. S. Constitution as treason and bribery, but in the phrase “other high crimes” implies yet other serious actions that may warrant impeachment and conviction
  • misdemeanors according to several legal scholars, political crimes such as misconduct in office and abuse of power
  • perjurious testimony in court or during a deposition that contains perjury (false statements)
