Ronald Reagan: First Inaugural Address

( 1981 )

As a prominent figure in national politics, Ronald Reagan became known as the “Great Communicator.” His Remarks at the Republican National Convention in 1976 inspired supporters, at a moment of defeat, to hope for eventual victory. After Reagan achieved that triumph in the election of 1980, his First Inaugural Address outlined many of the principles that would guide his presidency in domestic affairs, combining a long-term vision with a plan for immediate action in an effort to offer solutions to the nation’s economic ills.
