Sherman Antitrust Act

( 1890 )

Audience

As a governmental act, the Sherman Antitrust Act was written for the American people as a whole. Groups with a specific interest in the act, however, would be the three branches of government, especially the judicial branch, which is charged with enforcing the Sherman Antitrust Act, as well as all those involved in business. For instance, the Sherman Antitrust Act put all businesses, especially big businesses, on notice that they would no longer be allowed to monopolize a market and that free and unrestrained competition was not only encouraged but indeed protected under the law.
