Governor James Hamilton presided over the South Carolina Nullification Convention. The delegates included nullifiers Robert Hayne, Robert J. Turnbull, Robert Barnwell, and William Harper. Harper, former speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives and judge on the court of appeals, wrote the Ordinance of Nullification.
